Description:
My formal tertiary training in psychology was at the University of Western Australia, where I completed a Bachelor of Psychology, a Master of Psychology (Clinical), and a Doctor of Philosophy (with distinction). I began work as a Clinical Psychologist in 1973 at Fremantle Prison, a maximum security prison, and from there I went as the first psychologist to work at Karnet prison farm in Serpentine. After three years at Karnet, I moved to the Department of Community Development and worked for eight years as the Psychologist Superintendent of a residential treatment centre for children. This centre accommodated up to twenty children, and had three primary school classrooms, a kindergarten, and facilities for parents to live-in. In 1984, I left government work and with two other colleagues established one of the first group psychology practices in Perth.
